    iOS 15, and macOS Monterey Hardcover Book Available

    Yesterday I posted that the ebook and paperback for my latest book were available. I am please to announce that there is now a hardcover version available. The hardcover contains full color images of the book. Due to being both hardcover and color images, the price of the book is a bit more expensive. It is $39.99. You can order it from Amazon. You can also ask your local library to order it by using the ISBN of 9798477235018. The hardcover also makes a good gift.

    Apple is on a yearly cadence for releasing new operating systems. Despite all of the troubles of 2020 and 2021, Apple has continued this cadence. This year’s releases of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, watchOS 8, and macOS Monterey are somewhat lighter on new features that one might expect. However, the new features the operating systems have are big changes.

    The biggest change is with a new Focus system, which will allow you to customize how your iPhone, iPad, and Mac all function when you need to concentrate on a particular type of task. The iPad has seen a significant change with the ability to place Widgets on the home screen. This will create a whole new experience, particularly with the extra large widget size.

    For developers there are significant changes with Swift’s new async/await pattern, a whole new button system for customizing buttons, and a new continuous integration service called Xcode Cloud. Xcode itself has some improvements like inline commenting and the ability to review, merge, or close pull requests.

    SwiftUI, Apple’s Swift-only UI framework has some enhancements with a new refreshable modifier, new button options, a new primitive called AsyncImage.

    These topics just barely scratch what is covered in iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, watchOS 8, and macOS Monterey. The information within will provide details about all of the new features of each operating system and has something for everyone, no matter what level of expertise.

    Last month I posted that you could pre-order my latest book about Apple's operating systems. The book is now available in e-book as well as a physical paperback version.

    wwriteLite 8.0.0 Now Available

    All new wwriteLite 8.0.0 icons.

    I have released a new version of my app, wwriteLite, version 8.0.0. This new version has a few new features, most notably the new "Prompts" feature. There are two types of prompts, "One Word Prompts" and "Writing Prompts".

    One Word Prompts

    The "One Word" prompt is also aptly named in that it will provide you with a new word to provide a prompt. There is a new word every day. Some examples include: 

    • drip
    • scratch
    • fly

    Every effort has been made to not have duplicates, but it is possible that there will be some along the way. 

    Writing Prompts

    Writing Prompts is a prompt with a new one being shown every week. As the name implies, it provides a writing prompt. Some examples are: 

    • Think about the best vacation you have taken and write about why it is your favorite.
    • Write about your favorite childhood toy.
    • Write a story about living as part of King Arthur's entourage.

    Widgets

    Both prompt types can be added as a widget in either the Today View (on iOS, iPadOS, or macOS) or it can be placed on one of your home screens (iOS or iPadOS). 

    As always, wwriteLite is a free update. There is an additional icon pack called "Fruit" that you can purchase. It is $0.99, like the other icon packs, "Space".

    Here is the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max availability for the early afternoon of September 17th, 2021. This data is about six hours after the pre-orders opened, and there have been some major changes. The biggest is that the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models all have a delivery date range of October 18th to October 25th. This is approximately 3 to 4 weeks.

    iPhone 13 Availability for September 17th, 2021 (Early Morning)

    As has become my tradition after the latest iPhone pre-orders have begun, I start posting a snapshot of current iPhone availability. This year is no exception. However, there have been some changes to the posts this year. There are significantly fewer phone models. In fact, there is only one model for each iPhone screen size, color, and storage size. The reason for this is due to the dual eSim of the iPhone 13 line.

    This change has the benefit of allowing Apple to only produce a single model for each size, color, and storage size instead of adding the complexity of an additional model for each carrier. Instead, the carrier of your choice can be registered on the phone itself.

    With that in mind, here is the availability for the early morning of September 17th, 2021. This is information for about a 45 minutes after pre-orders opened.

    Summary

    The models still available for order are the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, and any iPhone 13 Pro except for the 1TB Sierra Blue, 1TB Silver, and 1TB Graphite.

    The only iPhone 13 Pro Max models available are 128GB Gold, 256GB Gold, and 512GB Gold, 128GB Sierra Blue, and 256GB Sierra Blue.

    All other models have an October 6th to October 11th delivery date range.
