Each Apple event provides the opportunity for me to make some predictions. I did just predictions in a post. Now that the event has occurred, here is how well I did.
Four New iPhones
There are indeed four new iPhone models, the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. There are new camera features, new colors, and improved battery life across the entire line.
These will be available for pre-order on Friday, September 17th, 2021.
Higher Refresh Rate on ‘Pro’ models
The iPhone Pro Max does have a higher refresh rate, 120Hz. In fact is can go from 10Hz to 120Hz dynamically as needed. If the screen does not need to refresh, it will save some battery. I got this one right..
There were no Macs mentioned at the event, which makes sense. I also go this one correct as well.
Refreshed 10.2-inch iPad
There is a new 10.2-inch iPad with a new camera, the A13 Processor. It has 64GB of storage as a base amount and is still $329. You can order one today for delivery or pickup starting on September 24th. I got this one right.
Refreshed iPad mini
There is an all new iPad mini that asks after the iPad Air Design. There is no longer a home button, but the Touch ID button is on the sleep/wake button. The iPad mini has USB-C and support the 2nd Generation Apple Pencil. You can order an iPad mini today for delivery and pickup starting September 24th.
Like the 10.2-inch iPad, this one was correct.
New Apple Watch with new design
There is a slightly new design on the Series 7 Apple Watch. The bezels are a bit smaller and the edges are a bit more round. There were rumors of a significant redesign, but I did not think that would happen and chose a slight redesign, which came true.
New Apple Watch with new case sizes
There are indeed two new sizes, 41mm and 45mm. This is indeed correct. The best part of the new sizes is that the existing Apple Watch bands will work with the Series 7 Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch will be available “Later this fall”. With the new case sizes, I got this correct as well.
I made a total of 7 predictions, and I got each one correct. This is likely the only Apple event where I will get every single prediction correct.
The updates this year appear to be minor ones. In the case of the 10.2-inch iPad and the Apple Watch, that is the case. However, for the iPhones and iPad mini, they are significantly bigger upgrades. For the iPhone 13 line, the cameras are huge upgrades.
