Life's About changes, Making Lemons into Lemonade
Phil Vassar - Lemonade
Anything else you don't remember from that day? If I don't remember it, how would I know if I remembered it or not. Unless I forgot to remember it.
Charlie Crews - Life
When you find yourself in some far off place,
And it causes you to rethink some things,
You start to sense that slowly you're becoming someone else,
And then you find yourself.

When you make new friends in a brand new town,
And you start to think about settlin' down,
The things that would have been lost on you are now clear as a bell,
And you find yourself, that's when you find yourself.

Where you go through life so sure of where you're headed,
And you wind up lost and it's the best thing that could have happened,
'Cause sometimes when you lose your way it's just as well,
Because you find yourself. yeah, that's when you find yourself.

When you meet the one that you've been waitin' for,
And she's everything that you want and more,
You look at her and you finally start to live for some one else,
And then you find yourself, that's when you find yourself.

We go through life so sure of where we're headed,
And we wind up lost and it's the best thing that could have happened,
'Cause sometimes when you lose your way it's really just as well,
Because you find yourself, yeah, that's when you find yourself...
Brad Paisley - Find Yourself
There's a Reason why the word 'cry' is in Cryptography.
Wayne Dixon - My own Thoughts
Growing Up Is Not An Absence Of Dreaming,
Its Being Able To Understand The Difference Between,
The Ones You Can Hold,
And The Ones That You've Been Sold,
But Dreaming Is A Good Thing,
Cause It Brings New Things To Life,
But Pretending Is An Ending,
That Perpetuates A Lie,
Forgetting What You Are Seeing,
For What You've Been Told.
Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction,
And This Is My Chance To Get It Right,
Life Is Much Better Without All Of Those Pretty Lies,
So Goodbye Alice In Wonderland,
You Can Keep Your Yellow Brick Road,
Cause There Is A Difference Between Dreaming And Pretending
And We Turn as We Must,
We are Ashes To Dust, Amen.
Sugarland - Hello

If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be here today.
All my friends, the girls, the broken hearts
All the critics, cynics, and doubters y'all know who you are

But I didn't get here alone

You're coming up like a flower, You're coming up through the cracks that live 'round here, Everybody know we have no fear

We are the wind of change change coming, We take a stand where so many never go, We will shout it out to let you know, This is my generation

We want an answer to the questions, We want to knock down all the walls they built for you, We want to know the truth not be lied to

We want to know the face of freedom, We want to make a place where we can learn to love, Build a world that we can be proud of, This is my generation

Cause we just want to dance all night, Live inside the spark of life, This might be the only time around
Cause we just want to dance all night, Live inside the spark of life, This might be the only time around

You're coming up like a flower, You're coming up through the cracks that live 'round here, Everybody knows we have no fear, This is our generation
Emerson Hart - Generation
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave bereft
I am not there. I have not left.

You cannot connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect the dots looking backward
Sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick, don't lose faith.
You've got to find what you love. And It is as true for work as it does for lovers.
Only way to do great work is to do what you do. If you haven't found it, keep looking and don't settle.
If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you will most certainly will be.
Almost everything, just falls away in the face of death. Remember that you're going to die is the best way to remember that
No one wants to die, Death is the destination we all share. Death is very likely is the single best invention of life. It's life change agent, clears out the old for the new.
Your time is limited, don't waste it living someone else's life.
Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they seem to already know where you want to go.
Stay hungry, stay foolish.
Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do.
Steve Jobs - Apple, Inc.
Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected.
Steve Jobs
Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."
Grief is the price we pay for love.

Baratunde Thurston - How To Be Black
The recent debate over copyright laws like SOPA in the United States and the ACTA agreement in Europe has been very emotional. And I think some dispassionate, quantitative reasoning could really bring a great deal to the debate. I'd therefore like to propose that we employ, we enlist, the cutting edge field of copyright math whenever we approach this subject. For instance, just recently the Motion Picture Association revealed that our economy loses $58 billion dollars a year to copyright theft. Now rather than just argue about this number, a copyright mathematician will analyze it and he'll soon discover that this money could stretch from this auditorium all the way across Ocean Boulevard to the Westin, and then to Mars ... (Laughter) ... if we use pennies.

Now this is obviously a powerful, some might say dangerously powerful, insight. But it's also a morally important one. Because this isn't just the hypothetical retail value of some pirated movies that we're talking about, but this is actual economic losses. This is the equivalent to the entire American corn crop failing along with all of our fruit crops, as well as wheat, tobacco, rice, sorghum -- whatever sorghum is -- losing sorghum. But identifying the actual losses to the economy is almost impossible to do unless we use copyright math. Now music revenues are down by about eight billion dollars a year since Napster first came on the scene. So that's a chunk of what we're looking for. But total movie revenues across theaters, home video and pay-per-view are up. And TV, satellite and cable revenues are way up. Other content markets like book publishing and radio are also up. So this small missing chunk here is puzzling.

Since the Big content markets have grown in-line with historic norms, it's not additional growth that piracy has prevented. But Copyright Math tells us it must therefore be foregone growth in a market that has no historic norms. One that did not exist in the 90's. What we're looking at here is the insidious cost of Ring tone Piracy. $50 Billion of it a year. That's enough at 30 seconds a ringtone to stretch from here to neanderthal times. It's true, I have Excel.

Now this is a key number in the Copyright Mathematicians Toolkit. It's the precise amount of harm that comes to media companies whenever a single copyrighted song or movie gets pirated. Hollywood and the Congress derived this number 'Mathematically', back when they last sat down to improve copyright damages and made this law. ($150,000)

Some people think this number is a little large. But Copyright Mathematicians who are Media lobby experts are merely surprised that it doesn't get compounded for inflation every year. Now when this law first past, the world's hottest MP3 Player could hold just 10 songs. It was a big Christmas Hit. Because what little hoodlum wouldn't want a million and half bucks worth of stolen goods in his pocket. Today the iPod Classic can hold 40,000 songs, which is to say $8 Billion worth of stolen media, or 75,000 jobs.

Now, you might find Copyright Math strange, but that's because it's a field that's best left to experts. So, that's it for now. I hope you join me next time when I will be making an equally scientific and fact-based inquiry into cost of Alien music piracy to the American Economy.

And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on.
Remembering that you're going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap that you have something to lose. You are already naked, there is no reason not to follow your heart.
Most of all, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you already want to become. Everything else is secondary.
And I'll never forget the songs that changed my path
Just one more reason I'm where I'm at
Kenny Chesney - Didn't Get Here Alone
You cannot connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect the dots looking backward. You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in the future. You have to trust in something, your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road, will give you the confidence following your heart, even off the well worn path, and that will make all the difference.

Josh Schnell - Twitter
Student: "Hi, my name is Jenny, I'm a sophomore, and this is for all three of you. Can you say in one sentence or less, you know what I mean. Why America is the greatest country in the world?"
Sharon: "Diversity and opportunity"
Louis: "Freedom and freedom"
McAvoy: "The New York Jets!"

Moderator: "No, I'm going to hold you to an answer on that. What makes America the greatest country in the world?"

McAvoy: "Well, Louis and Sharon said it, Diversity and opportunity and Freedom and Freedom."

Moderator: "I'm not letting you go back to the airport without answering the question."

McAvoy: "Well, our constitution is a masterpiece, James Madison was a genius. The Declaration of Independence is, for me, the greatest piece of American writing. (pause) You don't look satisfied."

Moderator: "One is a set of laws and the other is a declaration of war, I want a human moment from you. What about the people…"

McAvoy: "It's not the greatest country in the world Professor. That's my answer."
Moderator: "You're Saying"
McAvoy: "Yes."
Moderator: "Let's talk about"
McAvoy: "Fine, Sharon, the NEA is a loser, yeah it accounts for a penny out of our paycheck, but, he gets to hit you with it anytime he wants. It doesn't cost money. It costs votes, it costs air time and column inches. Do you know why people don't like liberals? Because they lose. If liberals are so fucking smart why do they lose so god damn always.

And with a straight face, you're going to tell students that America is so 'Star Spangled Awesome' that we're the only ones in the world who have freedom? Canada has freedom, Japan has freedom. The UK, France, Italy, Germany, spain, Australia, Belgium has freedom. 207 sovereign states in the world and 180 of them have freedom.

And sorority girl, in case you accidentally wander into a voting booth one day, there's absolutely no information to support the statement that we're the greatest country in the world. We're 7th in literacy, 27th in Math, 22nd in Science, 49th in Life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, 3rd in Median household income, number four in labor force, and number four in exports. We lead the world in only three categories. Number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending. Where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies.

Now, none of this is the fault of a 20-year-old college student. But you are none-the-less are without a doubt a member of the Worst.Generation.Ever. So when you ask what makes us the best country in the world, I don't know what the Fuck you're talking about. Yosemite?

Sure used to be. We stood up for what was right. We fought for moral reasons. We passed laws, struck down laws for moral reasons. We waged wars on poverty, not poor people. We sacrificed, we cared about our neighbors, we put our money where our mouths were. We never beat our chest. We built great big things, made ungodly technological advances, explored the universe, cured diseases, and we cultivated the world's greatest artists, and the world's greatest economy. We reached for the stars. Acted like men. We aspired to intelligence, we didn't belittle it. It didn't make us feel inferior. We didn't identify ourselves by who we voted for in the last election and we didn't scare so easy.

We were able to be all these things and do all these things because we were informed. By great men, by men who were revered. First step in solving any problem is recognizing that there is one. America is not the greatest country in the world anymore. Enough?"

Many of these adults of this influence are okay with believing that the world is 10,000 years old. If you adults want to do that, and carry this self-inconsistency, that's fine but keep it to yourself when it comes to your kids' school and science education. It is inappropriate to spend tax dollars intended for science education to teach that the world is 10,000 years old. It's just inappropriate. And I, as a tax payer, am not going to put up with that.

Geekdom is not a club; it's a destination, open to anyone who wants to put in the time and effort to travel there. And if someone lacks the opportunity to get there, we geeks should help in any way we can. Take a new friend to a meetup or convention. Donate your old games, movies, comics, and toys. Be welcoming. Sharing your enthusiasm is part of being a geek.

Anyone trying to purposely erect border fences or demanding to see ID upon entry to the land of Geekdom is missing the point. They have no power over you. Ignore them and dive headfirst into the things that interest you. Soak up every experience. Lose yourself in the pursuit of knowledge. When you finally come up for air, you'll find that the long road to geekdom no longer stretches out before you. No one can deny you entry. You're already home.

When you grow up you tend to get told the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money.
That's a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is - everything around you that you call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.

The minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something will, you know if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it, you can mold it. That's maybe the most important thing. It's to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there and you're just gonna live in it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it.

I think that's very important and however you learn that, once you learn it, you'll want to change life and make it better, cause it?s kind of messed up, in a lot of ways. Once you learn that, you'll never be the same again.

1. Anything that is in the world when you're born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.

2. Anything that's invented between when you're fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.

3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.
